Allison Cross is a community-based music therapist living in Louisville, KY. A native of Murray, KY, she came to Louisville to study music therapy in 2003. She received her bachelor’s degree in music therapy from the University of Louisville in 2010 and received training in using Neurologic Music Therapy techniques (credential held from 2011-2014). Allison is the owner of Restorative Sound, LLC a music therapy company serving Louisville Metro and surrounding counties.
She has worked with children, teens and adults who have emotional and/or developmental needs, and she is involved with various music related projects throughout the area.
From 2010 – 2016 Allison worked for a Cincinnati based company called Keys for Success and maintained a caseload of individual and group music therapy sessions, as a provider under the Indiana Medicaid Waiver.
In 2011, Allison helped to facilitate a music therapy pilot project in collaboration with Kindred Healthcare, PeopleFirst Rehabilitation and the University of Louisville.
In 2013, Allison co-authored a chapter in “Experiencing Race as a Music Therapist” a compilation of critically engaging narratives that grew out of conversations with 17 music therapists living in different parts of the world.
In 2014, she helped to co-launch AMPED (Academy of Music Production Education and Development), a music program for school-aged students that provides free music education, business, performance and production opportunities to local youth in Louisville.
In 2016, Allison co-facilitated a video editing after school program at Neighborhood House. Students learned how to write, record, edit and publish videos, in collaboration with Beargrass Media.
Allison has had the pleasure of working with Girls Rock Louisville for the past 5 years. She has helped to coach, manage and facilitate music with girls attending the week-long camp.
Lastly, Allison works as a freelance trombonist, performing and recording as needed with musicians in the Louisville area. She enjoys meeting new friends through music therapy and music performance, and is skilled at facilitating meaningful and engaging experiences for the people she works with!
